Saltverk is located at the tip of the narrow Reykjanes peninsula between two fjords, housed in an unassuming building. The rising steam is a giveaway. Inside, seawater slowly evaporates with the help of geothermal energy from a spring just a stone's throw away. While Saltverk's diverse offerings reflect today's gourmet tastes, the history of sea salt production in this region dates back to the 1770s.
